Southwest Airlines Flight Returns to Houston Due to Engine Issue; Passengers Safely Evacuated

A Southwest Airlines flight bound for Los Cabos, Mexico, returned to William P. Hobby Airport in Houston on Thursday morning following a reported engine issue. Flight 3006, carrying 134 passengers, landed safely, according to a statement from the airline. The crew promptly followed established procedures, assisting passengers in evacuating the aircraft onto the tarmac.

SOUTHWEST AIRLINES confirmed that customers would be rerouted to their final destination in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico. The airline praised the professionalism of its flight crew, emphasizing that “nothing is more important to Southwest than the safety of our customers and employees.”

This incident comes amidst a series of aviation disruptions this week. On Tuesday, a Frontier Airlines flight from Florida to Puerto Rico experienced a mechanical issue during landing at Luis Muñoz Marín International Airport. Frontier Flight 5306, an Airbus A321 carrying 228 passengers, had one of its landing gear wheels break off upon landing, as reported by Puerto Rican newspaper El Nuevo Día.

Flight investigator LUIS IRIZARRY told Puerto Rico’s WAPA-TV that it appeared a young co-pilot was operating the aircraft during the incident, with a captain taking control to ensure a safe landing. Frontier Airlines stated that the flight from Orlando to San Juan experienced a “hard landing” but confirmed no injuries to passengers or crew. The incident remains under investigation.

These events highlight the ongoing challenges in aviation safety and operational protocols. Both Southwest and Frontier Airlines have reiterated their commitment to passenger safety as investigations continue.
