More than two dozen high school students were hospitalized on Friday following a collision between a school bus and an SUV in Chicago. The incident occurred just after 7:30 a.m. on the city’s southwest side, according to officials from the CHICAGO POLICE DEPARTMENT.
The school bus, transporting students from OAK LAWN-HOMETOWN SCHOOL DISTRICT 123, was stopped at a red light when a 64-year-old man driving an SUV attempted a right turn in front of the bus. The bus subsequently struck the passenger side of the SUV, authorities reported.
Police confirmed that six students and both drivers were transported to LITTLE COMPANY OF MARY HOSPITAL, six students were taken to CHRIST HOSPITAL, and five students were brought to HOLY CROSS HOSPITAL. Officials stated that all individuals involved are in fair condition. Citations against the SUV driver are pending.
District officials have not yet responded to requests for comment from FOX NEWS DIGITAL.
This incident follows a tragic school bus crash in South Carolina less than a month ago, where a 13-year-old student, JOSE MARIE GONZALES LINARES, lost his life and five others were critically injured. The bus, carrying middle school students from North Carolina, blew a tire and overturned on the highway, resulting in 17 additional injuries.
