Frontier Airlines Flight Experiences Terrifying Wheel Malfunction During Puerto Rico Landing

A Frontier Airlines passenger recently shared a harrowing experience after one of the plane’s wheels broke off during a turbulent landing in Puerto Rico. MELANI GONZALEZ WHARTON recounted the incident on Facebook, detailing how her family’s flight from Florida to Puerto Rico turned into a nightmare as the Airbus A321 attempted to land at Luis Muñoz Marín International Airport.

“For a few minutes, I thought it was the end of our story here on earth,” Wharton wrote. She described witnessing the ordeal through her window, stating, “We were landing, and the landing was very bad, aggressive, and at a high speed. This caused one of the tires on the front of the plane to break and catch fire.”

Frontier Flight 5306, carrying 228 passengers, experienced a mechanical issue during its approach, resulting in one of the landing gear wheels detaching, as reported by Puerto Rican newspaper *El Nuevo Día*. Flight investigator LUIS IRIZARRY informed WAPA-TV that the young co-pilot appeared to be in command at the time of the incident. However, the quick-thinking captain intervened to safely land the aircraft.

Wharton expressed her concern on Facebook, writing, “The reality is that we were flying in the hands of inexperts,” referring to the co-pilot’s apparent lack of experience. Fortunately, no injuries were reported.

Fox News Digital reached out to Frontier Airlines for comment but has not yet received a response.
