In an era where many American students face academic challenges, a private school in Texas is redefining education by achieving remarkable results with an unconventional approach. At Alpha School, students spend just two hours a day in class, guided by an Artificial Intelligence (AI) tutor, yet they consistently rank in the nation’s top 1 to 2% academically.
MACKENZIE PRICE, Alpha’s co-founder and a Stanford-educated psychologist, shared the school’s innovative model during an interview on *Fox & Friends*. “We use an AI tutor and adaptive apps to provide a completely personalized learning experience. Our students are learning faster and better. In fact, our classes are in the top 2% in the country,” she said.
Following the abbreviated morning academic block, the remainder of the day is dedicated to developing real-world skills such as public speaking, teamwork, and financial literacy. Price launched Alpha in 2016 after her daughters returned home from traditional school feeling bored and unchallenged. The Austin-based campus was the first to implement this bold model, compressing core academics into two hours using technology and freeing students to explore their passions.
The results speak for themselves. ELLE KRISTINE, a junior who has attended Alpha since second grade, shared her experience on *Fox & Friends*. “I have a lot of friends at traditional school. They’re spending all this time on schoolwork, they’re so stressed out, and they’re just miserable. We get all of our academics done in just three hours a day, and then the rest of the day we get to spend doing what we love and working on passion projects,” she said. Kristine, for example, is developing a safe AI dating coach for teenagers, recently featured in *The Wall Street Journal*.
Alpha currently operates campuses in Austin, Brownsville, and Miami, serving students from Pre-K through high school. Enrollment is intentionally small—around 150 students at the original Austin site—to ensure a highly personalized experience. Instead of traditional teachers, Alpha employs guides who focus on coaching and emotional support, while AI handles academic instruction.
“Our teachers spend all their time working with our students,” Price explained. “That human connection can never be replaced by AI. But the AI makes it possible to personalize learning for everyone.”
With growing demand and impressive results, Alpha is expanding nationwide. The school has announced plans to open seven new campuses by Fall 2025, including locations in Houston, Fort Worth, Orlando, Tampa, Palm Beach, Phoenix, Santa Barbara, and New York City. Applications are already open for many sites, with tuition averaging $40,000 to $50,000 annually. Notably, the Brownsville campus is subsidized to enhance accessibility.
“This is infinitely scalable and accessible,” Price emphasized. “It’s going to help students who are struggling and also those who are just bored in traditional classrooms.”
Alpha’s rise coincides with broader shifts in education policy. In January, former President Donald Trump signed an executive order directing the Department of Education to support school-choice programs, including charter schools, private vouchers, and education savings accounts. “Parents want and deserve the best education for their children,” the order stated.
LINDA MCMAHON, then Education Secretary, praised the policy as “history-making,” asserting that it empowers families and local communities. “We are sending education back to the states where it so rightly belongs. Families deserve control over how their children learn—whether it’s AI-powered schools, faith-based options, or traditional public classrooms,” she said.
The Trump administration’s plan also allows parents to use 529 savings accounts for private K–12 tuition and encourages states to pursue federal grants for educational innovation.
