DALLAS, Texas — Tensions flared at a press conference Thursday as DOMINIQUE ALEXANDER, head of the Next Generation Action Network and spokesman for the family of KARMELO ANTHONY, clashed with JEFF METCALF, the father of AUSTIN METCALF, who was escorted from the event before it began. The incident unfolded as the activist group addressed the case of Anthony, a 17-year-old accused of fatally stabbing Austin Metcalf at a high school track meet in Frisco, Texas, on April 2.
Jeff Metcalf confirmed to Fox News Digital that he was removed from the press conference under the threat of criminal trespass charges. The Dallas Police Department stated that the individual left without incident, and no offense was reported.
Anthony, who faces first-degree murder charges, was released from Collin County Jail after his bond was reduced from $1 million to $250,000. The press conference, led by Dominique Alexander, aimed to address rumors surrounding over $450,000 raised on GiveSendGo for the Anthony family and to allow Anthony’s mother, KAYLA HAYES, to read a prepared statement. However, the event quickly devolved into accusations of racism and bigotry.
Alexander criticized Jeff Metcalf for attending the conference, calling it “a disrespect to the dignity of his son.” He accused Metcalf of focusing on politics and bigotry, stating, “What he has felled [sic] into is the political operatives that want to make this thing a political thing of hate and yet bigotry and yet racism.”
The activist also defended the Anthony family’s use of the GiveSendGo funds, asserting that none of the money had been spent. “Let’s be clear,” he said. “The family has not received one dime.”
Alexander further criticized the Frisco Independent School District for its decision to expel Anthony, who has a 3.7 GPA, just weeks before graduation. He suggested the district should have canceled the track meet due to inclement weather, implying shared responsibility for the tragedy.
Kayla Hayes, Anthony’s mother, spoke briefly, expressing distress over the threats and harassment her family has faced. “Our family has been under attack,” she said. “Whatever you think, what happened between Karmelo and the Metcalf boy, my three younger children, my husband and I didn’t do anything to deserve to be threatened, harassed, and lied about.”
Alexander later invoked the case of Kyle Rittenhouse, arguing that Anthony deserves the same rights to self-defense. “He should be afforded the same rights that Kyle Rittenhouse had,” he said.
Jeff Metcalf, in a previous interview with Fox News, emphasized that the tragedy was not about race or politics. “This is a human being thing,” he said. “This person made a bad choice and affected both his family and my family forever.” He described Austin as “the light of my life” and shared that his son died in the arms of his twin brother, HUNTER METCALF, who tried to stop the bleeding.
The altercation occurred under a tent at the track meet, where witnesses reported Anthony stabbed Austin after a confrontation. Anthony told responding officers he acted in self-defense and asked if Metcalf would be OK.
The case continues to draw national attention as both families grapple with the aftermath of the tragedy.
